More Than $3,000 in Damages to Cincinnati Airbnb Home
Like many other property owners, Ron Kohlman decided to list his home on Airbnb to make a few extra bucks throughout the year. Unfortunately, his moneymaking idea ended up costing him cash rather than helping him make it. Worse yet – the damage to his property was caused by not one but two separate guests with back-to-back bookings, which just goes to show how common property damage is in home sharing.
The first guests, a couple with children, wrecked thousands of dollars of property, including a Sunsetter awning on his back patio. Not more than 2 weeks later, his next set of guests held a massive house party with 30 people. By the time he came home to check on his property, it was in complete shambles with more than $3,000 worth of estimated damages.
Kohlman decided to contact Airbnb for reimbursement, figuring their Airbnb Host Guarantee would take care of him. On Airbnb’s website, they describe their protection plan as an “unmatched level of protection.” But when Airbnb began to request receipts, Kohlman knew there was going to be a problem. Kohlman states that he no longer has receipts for many of the damaged items, leaving his claim up in the air with no resolution at all.
